What to do if boiler pressure keeps dropping

Modern boilers need to be kept within a specific pressure range to work properly. If pressure keeps dropping and needs regular topping up, something is usually causing it, rather than it being normal wear.

What might be causing it

1. A leak somewhere in the pipework, which may not always be visible
2. A leak from a radiator valve or fitting
3. A fault with the pressure relief valve, causing it to release water
4. An issue with the boiler's internal components

What to check yourself

It's worth having a look around your property for any damp patches, staining or drips near radiators, pipework or under the boiler itself. If you can't find an obvious cause, it's best not to keep repressurising the system repeatedly — get it looked at properly instead.
